Silk screen printing is a traditional and hands-on printing technique that involves pressing ink through a mesh screen to transfer a design onto a surface. A stencil is used to block out areas where the ink shouldn’t go, allowing the chosen design to appear clearly and boldly. This method is known for producing vibrant, long-lasting results on materials like fabric, paper, and more. It’s especially effective for creating high-quality prints with strong color and detail.

At the start of each project, I begin by collecting a wide range of visual research to inform and inspire my design development. I’m particularly drawn to historical architecture, natural forms, and wildlife - often photographing, sketching, and gathering imagery from locations I visit. These sources help me build a strong foundation of shapes, textures, and patterns, which I then translate into drawings, mark makings, and surface designs.
Colour plays a vital role in my design process and is one of the most important elements I consider when developing a collection. I carefully select and build colour palettes that reflect the mood, theme, and visual identity of each project. Whether I’m working with natural dyes or layering printed colours through screen printing, I pay close attention to how colours interact across surfaces. I enjoy experimenting with both bold, contrasting tones and more subtle, harmonious combinations to bring depth and emotion to my work.
In the final stages of my design process, I focus on translating my initial drawings and colour palettes into refined outcomes through both hand-printed and digital methods. Using screen printing, I bring my sketches to life on fabric and paper, carefully layering colours and experimenting with scale, texture, and surface finishes. I often work with techniques like devoré, discharge, and pigment printing to add depth and tactile quality to my designs. Alongside traditional methods, I use digital tools to develop patterns, test colour variations, and refine compositions, ensuring the final pieces are both innovative and professionally resolved. This combination of hand-crafted and digital approaches allows me to maintain the energy of my original mark makings while adapting them into polished, industry-ready designs.
